This is such wonderful news!!!! I have recently bought a new MacMini running OSX Maverick and using a PC running FreeHand to work on my old files which is such a mission!!!! I would love to run the Snow Leopard Server so that I can work on one computer, but I live in South Africa, so how do I go about ordering it from Apple?

Presently I have FH11.0.2 running on a 2008 Snow Leopard MacBook, and want to move it to my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and Parallels 8.

I have ordered Snow Leopard server from UK Apple (£14) and will install that into Parallels soon as the disc arrives.

Can anyone advise how best I move FH into Snow Leopard/Parallels from the old MacBook?

I installed Snow Leopard server as a VM in Parallels8 on my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, then successfully installed Freehand MX.

So far so good, but:
• drag and drop between OSX server and Mountain Lion won't work in either direction
• I can mount OSX server in Mountain Lion finder, but can't mount Mountain Lion in OSX server
• copy and paste works from FH to Illustrator CS6 though complex paths – eg punch out – don't render correctly

I've no previous experience setting up an OSX server, so may not have configured it fully. But it seems like the fact it's running in a VM severely limits its (file) server functionality.
I've searched on Parallels website/forum and elsewhere for more info without success. Does anyone know how to enable file swapping between the VM server and Mountain Lion?

I'm not familiar with Parallels (I've only got as far as getting Snow Leopard Server from Apple at this point) but maybe there's some options for using a shared folder between the host and client or maybe file sharing settings need to be configured in both the host and client?

This is for a windows client but the principle might be the same...

I guess doing it on the cheap with VirtualBox might not be the way to go then ;)

One of our members sent his instructions for using VirtualBox. It is worth a read to help decide. I can't paste it here because of the added screen shots added so this is the download link for the PDF instructions:

I’m an novice, so please bear with me here... I’m trying to migrate form a intel based Macbook Pro circa 2006 running 10.6.8 to a 2009 Macbook Pro running 10.9.6 (Mavericks). My Question is, Will the Snow Leopard server and Vmware Fusion 5.05 be a good work around so I can run Freehand MX 11. build 416 with no problem? I do not have the the freehand soft wear CD.

If it is a seamless/good workaround, is there a specific way to install Snow Leopard without conflicts with Mavericks?

Any help would deb appreciated!

Hi HornRockCity-
All the virtualization apps are good but I'd suggest upgrading to the latest version of Fusion. Both it and Parallels have been improved since v.5. And getting FreeHand installed is easy enough with a download copy and using the recent Adobe activation serial #. http://adobe.ly/1eSCJoA

Snow leopard resides within the Fusion setup so no worries about it conflicting with Mavericks; you can have your Mavericks apps running at the same time as Fusion/FreeHand.

This is the best setup procedure I have seen (except the author uses Parallels):
